About the 10th Judicial District

New Mexico's Largest Single Judge Judicial District

The 10th Judicial District includes De Baca, Harding, and Quay counties. The district includes an area nearly the size of New Jersey, with a population of more than 10,000 individuals. In the district, there are three district courts and three magistrate courts, all under the management and direction of Judge Mitchell as the Chief District Judge.

 

During his time as District Judge, Judge Mitchell has made rulings in:

  • More than 3,200 criminal cases;

  • Close to 3,400 family law cases;

  • Over 800 probate matters; and,

  • More than 2,000 civil litigation cases.

Judge Mitchell, along with court staff, manages an annual budget of more than $1.7 Million.

Since 2008, Judge Mitchell has only had 7 decisions overturned by the New Mexico Court of Appeals.
